Is Paris always more expensive?
For rent, yes, significantly. A small studio in Paris can cost €800-€1100, compared to €450-€650 in Lyon or Toulouse. However, other costs can be similar. A CROUS meal is €1 or €3.30 everywhere, and an unlimited monthly transport pass in Paris ('Navigo') is cheaper than in many other large cities. The main budget difference is accommodation.
Are smaller cities harder for jobs?
Not necessarily. While Paris has the largest job market, it also has the most competition. A smaller city with a strong local industry (e.g., aerospace in Toulouse, micro-electronics in Grenoble, wine in Bordeaux) can offer excellent opportunities, especially for internships and post-study jobs in your specific field. Service jobs are generally available everywhere, though perhaps with less variety than in Paris.
